Detox can be defined as a process that involves cleansing your body from toxic or unhealthy substances.

In the world of nutrition it’s closely associated with food, but did you know that cleansing is not just about the diet?

Detoxification can be introduced into many other areas of our lives such as the environment we live and breathe in relationships, or our mind.

In order to improve our lives, it is important that we recognise how we really feel at every moment. To be able to connect with ourselves at a deeper level, we need to stay present to know what each moment is giving us.

The environment we spend time in can influence our behaviour and give us the motivation to act. It is therefore important to keep it clean and organised.

Our living space affects the mood on a subconscious level by either boosting our energy and bringing more joy or causing negative feelings such as stress and anxiety.

Here are just a few tips that can help you get rid of the toxicity from your surroundings.

HOME DETOX

  • Have a weekly deep clean in your home choose a specific area to do and use non-toxic products to clean and sterilise your home.

  • Open a window to let fresh air in.

  • Use your space in your home according to your needs. Have defined areas as an example where you work choose it to be near natural light to elevate your mood.

  • The kitchen is for food preparation and eating. Use the time to eat slowly, calm your mind and focus on yourself and how the meal is contributing to your nourishment and overall satisfaction.

  • Have a glass jug with fresh water and use a variety of ingredients such as lemon, orange, rosemary, ginger, cucumber or raspberries to infuse your water.

  • After food shopping, remove and wash your packed items and store them in the fridge without any plastic.

  • Make your fridge look pretty and clean it inside too! This will encourage you to use your ingredients to compliment your wellbeing.

  • Do your food prep the night before so that when you wake up for breakfast, you can enjoy it and feel organised. You won’t believe how helpful it is to start your day being calm and present, knowing you do not have to rush.

Body & MIND DETOX

  • Cleanse your mind by taking a digital detox; put your electronic devices down and light an uplifting candle scent whilst trying to clear your mind from negative emotions or worries.

  • Focus on one thing at a time from your “to-do” list to enhance your day and get a sense of accomplishment when you achieve them.

  • Talk about what you have with appreciation.

  • Go for a walk in nature to boost your happy hormones and move your body.

  • Connect with each task you do finish before you move on to the next task.

  • Take dedicated breaks in the day move to another room gaze out of the window look up at the sky.

  • Do a 20 minute stretch on your mat. Take the time to notice any areas of tension and use your breath to release them.

  • Here’s my favourite routine to follow when I’m taking the time to relax:

Shake your hand out for 15 seconds.
    Rest for 30 seconds.
Shake the right hand out for 15 seconds.
Rub your hands together for 30 seconds.
Press each finger onto the thumb of both hands and hold for a moment while you breathe in and out slowly.
Close your eyes and take a moment to appreciate your thoughts and your surroundings.

  • Last but not least, smile at your reflection in the mirror - you are a beauty being full of happiness and wellness.
